REGENCY IN EFFECT AS H.M. THE KING STEPS BACK TEMPORARILY

Crown Prince Titu assumes control as Regent

H.M. the King in an exclusive interview to NBC News last year.

CARDENAS, FCD -- H.M the King established today a temporary Regency lasting four AN months, placing Crown Prince Titu as Regent during his absence.

H.M. will be incapacitated for four AN months as he undergoes a series of surgeries and focuses on physical therapy as he addresses major health issues as a result from past injuries in the field of battle during the Restoration.

The surgeries aim to address damage to his joints, particularly his left knee and left side of his hip, injured while leading troops in battle during the seizure of Parap and the return of H.M. in 1673 AN. His joints will be replaced with artificial titanium joints that will help relieve the pain and discomfort H.M. has experienced for years.

He is expected to make a full recovery and is said to be in extremely "good spirits", according to a spokesperson at the Palace of Carranza. "His Majesty has the opportunity to address sources of significant pain and discomfort with this surgery, and will focus on his recovery during the Regency period to return with vigor and in good health."

WANTED: AN OPPOSITION

With the country headed to its 2nd general election, will we have a choice here?

The cover of The Aldurian this week.

Democracy depends on competent opposition.

Governments, however well-intentioned, require permanent and effective scrutiny to meet the public interest. For this purpose, our system has given this important role to the Official Opposition to hold the Government to account.

However, at present, and in the week the King dissolves the Cortes Federales, this constitutional duty is being fulfilled in name alone.

Since the inception of partisan politics in Nouvelle Alexandrie, the Government of National Unity has changed partners mid-term, switched the President between Augustus Strong and Santiago Etienne, and has led the country through turbulent beginnings. The Government has done its job well. But it also has neglected many policy fields and has made its own mistakes. An active, scrappy, and focused opposition could have held this Government to account.

As a consequence, many voters have never felt more unrepresented or disempowered. Those who do not share the National Humanist version of Nouvelle Alexandrie do not have a viable and active alternative to vote for.

Let us not forget that the combined vote share of Cambio Democratico, the Progressive Federalists, and the Digger’s Society would have given a majority to a broad leftist share of the vote. However, with the success of the Federal Humanist Party in power, the center-left/liberal majority in this country has not coalesced behind any alternatives - even losing some of its votes to the National Humanists.

Our country’s democracy cannot afford this. This magazine does not oppose the Federal Humanist Party. But what this magazine opposes is a dead democracy and no real choice on the ballot.

Let's hope the other parties will wake up this election and bother to work for the honor of representing the people.
