Clementsgrad is the capital of Gerenia. It is the largest city in Clements and the second largest in the country.
History
The first settlement in the area was created in 1819 on the north side of the Nivaya, and it was called Noltsak. Peace City, Clementsgrad's former name, was founded in 1826. The main economic activity in those early days was agriculture, and transportation of furs and timber by river to Port Isherwood.
Peace City prospered between 1880 and 1960 as a commercial hub in the country. In 1960 it was destroyed in one of the last military actions of the Religion Wars in Gerenia. During the following years, new settlements were created in the area. Some of them grew and eventually merged, forming the town of Clementsgrad.
Geography
Clementsgrad is situated on the south bank of the Nivaya River, which is a tributary of the Maiýnat. Across the Nivaya lies the town of Salnat, which is the real administrative centre of Gerenia.
Clementsgrad has a humid continental climate, with warm summers and very cold winters.
The city has a main urban area but there are many suburban and rural areas within the modern city's limits, all of them belonging to the National Capital District.
Economy
Although less important than once before, the agricultural sector remains the mainstay of Clementsgrad's economy. The few industries present are mostly devoted to food processing.
Sports
Clementsgrad is currently home to two professional football team, Mayfield Bazree AC and Clementsgrad United. Several non-professional teams play in the city, as it is also home to an assortment of amateur organized team sports such as football, basketball, rugby, ice-hockey and tennis.
