Sanaman Foreign Legion
The Sanaman Foreign Legion, usually just called the Foreign Legion, is a military unit belonging to the Sanaman Army established in 1690. The unit is unique in the Sanaman Armed Forces since it is open to non-Sanaman citizens. The purpose of the Legion is to provide Sanama with a unit that can be deployed in various overseas roles without committing regular units from the Sanaman Army. Any Legionnaire that serves for at least five years can apply for Sanaman citizenship. Most legionnaires are recruited from the Green among various wayward deserters, expats and vagrants. The Foreign Legion reports directly to the General Staff of the Sanaman Army. The current Brigadier-in-Chief is Alain Pimpolet, an ethnic Alexandrian. The first mission for the newly established Legion was to provide security and public works in Sanaman Cibola, as that territory was established in 1691. Future missions will most likely include deployment to various peacekeeping missions and other military campaigns.
