Crystal Library

Once upon a time, in the ancient lands of Micras, there lived a powerful deity known as Mors, the God of Death. Mors ruled over the realm of the dead, overseeing the passage of souls from the world of the living to the afterlife.

Despite his fearsome reputation, Mors was a just and fair god, always striving to ensure that the dead were treated with the respect and dignity they deserved. He was known for his wisdom and his love for all living things, and was greatly respected by the other gods and mortals alike.

One day, Mors decided to create a new race of beings to serve as his loyal servants and protectors. Using his immense power, he imbued a group of deceased warriors with the ability to rise from the dead, imbuing them with great strength and the ability to withstand almost any injury. These beings were known as revenants, and they were tasked with guarding the realm of the dead and ensuring that the souls of the deceased were properly cared for.

The revenants proved to be loyal and fierce warriors, using their powerful abilities to defend the realm of the dead against any who would seek to harm it. They were feared and respected by all who encountered them, and their reputation as powerful and unstoppable warriors grew.

Over time, the revenants began to take on a more prominent role in the world of the living as well. They were called upon to defend the lands of Micras from threats both external and internal, and their skill in battle was unmatched.

Despite their fearsome reputation, the revenants were known for their compassion and their love for all living things. They would never hesitate to defend the innocent, and many turned to them for protection and guidance.

As the years passed, the revenants continued to serve Mors and protect the realm of the dead. Their legend grew, and they became known as the most powerful and fearsome warriors in all of Micras. To this day, they remain a steadfast and loyal force, dedicated to defending the realm of the dead and upholding the will of their creator, Mors, the God of Death.

Defence Against Anomalous Phenomena

Revenants are humans who have died and become necromantically re-animated to eternal undeath as revenants. Their power has grown steadily over the centuries. Largely extinct as of 1652 AN following the sudden failure of the chthonic energy fields which had hitherto sustained their presence on the Benacian continent.

The study and creation of revenants began in Brookshire, traditionally the heartland of Mors, the death-god of Cedrism. Necromancy, as an arcane pursuit, was forbidden unless Mors himself willed it. The Children of Mors and their allies, the Adepti and the Technomaezji, were thus known to dabble in the animation of dead flesh in strictly controlled conditions far away from the public eye. So the art was developed and sustained, quietly, over several millennia, but was never approved for mass use. The fate of the Empire of Khaz Modan was considered to be a dire warning to all those who would allow arcane and chthonic knowledge to be casually applied without due care and diligence.

This caution was thrown aside by Anthrazita von Rossheim (Mira Raynora Major) whose imported Riskai minions, known as Deathsayers and Deathgivers, were installed in Maltenstein and there, over subsequent decades, oversaw the subsumption of Brookshire into the realms of the dead until finally almost traces of the celestial and human supremacy were expunged and the Duchy rechristened as the Kingdom of Lichbrook. Legions of liches and zombots poured from the Brookshirian interior to cement her rule, invoking the power of the old gods to subjugate the (unfree) mortal population but simultaneously defiant of them. The descendants of these liches and zombots would go on to play the leading role in the creation of Minarboria.

House of Revenance

The House of Revenance was a militant group who is responsible for destroying heathen undead creations. They held that Mors' Commandment, "Do not use heathen magics" was the most important. Because of this, the Revenants shunned any form of magic, up to and including the powers of their own god. They traditionally wore robes of gray.

Their leader, Talrex Sortan, was, ironically, a [[lich]{ lord granted eternal undeath by Mors to better understand the heathens. He was feared, but is also frequently ignored in the ancient last when the Thrones regularly met.

Talrex Sortan was indeed reputed to be one who had become possessed of a jealousy concerning knowledge of the arts of Mors, to the extent of being greatly angered by the careless manner in which the gift has been bestowed by Mira Raynora and Lyssansa Rossheim in defiance of the will of the Gods.
