Madness is the capital city of The Grand Principality of Beaugium. The people of Madness are famed for their friendliness and their style of a very intimate and personal council system.
History
The archaic Madness was founded in 1564 YOB by Queen Aspergia I, the monarch at the time as a trading point at the confluence point of the two rivers. 'New' Madness was founded in 2006 YOB by Queen Isabelle. Madness is a strange city, and for much of it's life was a polar utopia, dominated by the palace of HRH High Prince Babs Beau, Saint Barbara's Court. However, after many a century, Madness's location was shifted completely, over to South Island in Beaugium's new territory.
Geography & Transport
Madness is a city deep in the mountains of South Island and on a clear day, you can see the monstrous Lake Jaffa on the coast. Due to its hazardous location, there are no roads running directly into Madness. Most citizens either walk or cycle, but some choose to use the tram system. All roads leading to Madness finish between 15 and 10 miles away, and the last part of the journey must be made using cable car.
Attractions
The must see of Madness is Saint Barbara's Court, the palace of HRH High Prince Babs Beau. The palace is open all year round but some areas are sealed off to the public as they are the royals' private areas. The Centre of Madness Councillory is located on Pedant Street together with the Palace of beaugium, home to the parliament of the nation. Both are famous attractions across the micronational globe due to their distinctive style of administration. Other famous attractions include the statue of Arcturius the Great, the founder of Beaugium, which is located at the end of the pedestrianised Boulevard de Nantes and the four viewpoints located at the North, South, East and West of the city, where you can see for up to 17 miles.
Products of Madness
Madness is known for its wood carvings. The best place to buy this is at the weekly Feland Market, held on the Boulevard de Nantes. Cost ranges from pennies to thousands of BIOUs and most prices are negotiable.
Cultural Tips
Wearing gloves in a public place or in the presence of a female is generally considered as offensive, and putting one's head in their hands is also considered to be a sign of hatred. Most locals, however, are generally understanding toward tourists and will normally point something out to you if it would cause you a problem in the city. Whilst inside Saint Barbara's Court or in the grounds, it is considered treason to bite one's nails. The maximum penalty for treason is 24 hours in the Big Beaugian House being bullied by Jade Goody.
