Organized and broadcast by the public broadcaster VAI, the festival aims to promote national and international film culture, offering a platform for visibility for emerging directors, actors, and productions. Created with the aim of promoting the Vegno audiovisual scene, it is now considered one of the most important media and cultural events in the country. The show is held on July 30 of every year and is presented for the first time by Michele Buonanotte, who also served as the artistic director for the competition, alongside a number of co-hosts. Every year 15 films and more are selected by the jury to attend this competition and be awarded with differents pizes.

History

The Mhazar Vegnese Film Festival was founded in 2025 in the city of Mhazar, with the ambition of becoming a benchmark for national and international cinema. Strongly supported by the public broadcaster VAI, the festival was born during a period of growing creative ferment in the Vegno audiovisual scene, characterized by the spread of new independent productions and a renewed interest in film language as an art form and social reflection. The first edition, held in July 2025, stood out for its television-style, spectacular format, with live ceremonies, an international selection of works, and the presence of leading figures from the cultural scene. The Golden Cormorant, the festival's highest award, was immediately recognized as a symbol of artistic excellence in the Vegnese scene. Alongside it, awards such as the Silver Cormorant, the Marmo Cunno Prize, and the unique Mancuso Special contributed to shaping an identity that was both ironic and prestigious. Since its inception, the festival has been not only a film competition, but also a space for meeting, dialogue, and experimentation, welcoming emerging authors, experimental works, and themes with a strong civic impact. The initiative has had a significant impact on the city of Mhazar, transforming it every year into a vibrant center of events, screenings, and debates, contributing to the development of the creative industry and the tourist appeal of the area.
