Majuu (Hoennese: 魔󠄁獸, translit.: masu?), also known as pokémon, are a class of supernally empowered creatures native to Terra, which were also present on Nijima during its time as a Hoennese colony and later independent nation. Most majuu undergo a process of metamorphosis between juvenile, subadult, and adult life stages, which is known as evolution (進化, jinwa?).
649 types (often termed species, though due to aforementioned metamorphoses the appellation is inexact) of majuu are known, sorted into seventeen types by their elemental affinities; of these, 135 are native to Hoenn. Some species of masu are known to be sapient.
