Walseife is a soft soap made out of whale (or dolphin) fat and caustic potash that is most traditionally used for household cleaning. Walseife is not hydrogenated, giving the soap a particular "fishy" smell that not everyone can appreciate but that is associated with cleanliness in Walstadt and Light. The soap, that is not widely exported, is a protected regional product according to the rules of the Xäiville Convention which demand that the whales that are caught for Walseife are brought ashore in Walstadt, either whole or dismembered, and that the extraction of the fat and the production of the soap also take place in the city district of Walstadt.
