Vanie is the capital and federal city of Oportia. Located in Gulf of Vanie, the city has 1,058,175 inhabitants according to the 1716 census, making it second largest city in Oportia, after Port de Huile.

History

The Babkhan city of Zoghâllab was founded in 1574 AN. During the 1598 Babkhan Holocaust, the city was devastated following the detonation of the nuclear weapons. The survivors formed a community, however most of them have gradually left the region and emigrated elsewhere. In the following decades, a large amount of former Babkhan nationals have settled in due to better living conditions compared to the ones they originally came from.

The city was integrated into Caradian barony of Salòdica in 1680, but was not granted an official city status. After five years, the barony was dissolved and started new era.

From 1685 the city has seen an influx of wealthy individuals coming from various countries who invested in the city's infrastructure and economy. The name Vanie came into use.

In 1706, Oportia declared independence, and first national referendum took place immediately. Despite being the second largest city in that moment, Vanie has been chosen as the capital of the country due to geographical and economic reasons.

In 1707, the public initiative led to Centre arrondissement being renamed to Zoghâllab, honouring the city's past name.
