Aelfric Aescby (c. 975AJ – ), was the first King of Nova England to take an active role in the nation’s governance since the Great Disaster and the Evacuations. Born in 975AJ, he was the first son of Josephus II. In 1025AJ he was crowned king of Nova England and quickly took a series of actions to quell the instability within the nation. He was renowned for pushing his own policies and ideology, often known as ‘Faedertellus First’.
Storming of the Witan
In mid-1025AJ militias loyal to either the Nova English People’s Party or the National Reclamation Force had begun engaging in constantly escalating skirmishes. These clashes resulted in a series of bloody shootouts leaving wounded and dead militia men and civilians caught in the crossfire. It was at this time that King Aelfric I had been crowned King of Nova England after the quiet passing of his father. Unlike his father who had spent his reign within the Redoubt bunker and away from domestic politics. King Aelfric had decided that the disunity of the nation had reached such a level that a new Great Disaster loomed. As such in an unprecedented move he organised the full mobilisation of the National Redoubt Guard and marched on Newcastle-Upon-Eastmoor. During the journey there he made several radio speeches calling all loyal People’s Militias to converge on the city and assist with the arrest of the ruling collation and their warring militiamen.
When the King’s forces reached the city many of the warring militiamen surrendered without any resistance. Though some did try and resist but quickly found themselves lynched by crowds of locals and hung from the street lamps or torn apart but the well drilled National Redoubt Guard.
By the end of the day the King’s forces stormed the Witan and arrest the party members of the NEPP and the NERF. King Aelfric announced the formal dissolution of the Witan and for new elections to be held at the soonest moment possible.
Speaking on national television that night the new King set out his vision for the future of the Faedertellus.
