Pacary

Pacary is an island in the southern hemisphere of Micras.

Origins and Etymology

The island, unmarked on early physical maps, is generally called Pacary after the first country to occupy it. Pacary, in the Pacarian language, meant "peace".

Geography

Pacary consists of two islands; the smaller was called Minorca by the Baracaoans. The larger, Pacary Proper, has a large lake in the middle, and is surrounded by fjords. There are also four small islands to the north and two small islands to the south. In 1734 AN, the islands are occupied by three powers. Most of Pacary Proper is now known as Eternia, a constituent country of the Imperial Federation, and the main island has that name. Minorca is occupied by Athlon, a protectorate of Natopia. A small portion of Pacary Proper is occupied by the Florian colony of Etourney, located on a small area at and just off the northern coast of its mainland.

History

Pacary inhabited the island from Series Four to Series Six, after which it passed into the hands of the Baracaoans, who built their capital on Minorca. The Baracaoans later evacuated in favor of the Islas de la Libertad, after which time it was reclaimed by Sander, former PM of Pacary, for his new nation of Lemuria. Lemuria joined the GSO project, and the island was eventually given to the Kingdom of Alexandria when they annexed its former owner, Galatia.

Athlon occupied Minorca in c. 1530 AN and continuously occupied the island since.

Pacary proper went through many hands including a nation with the same name. The territory was gained and lost through various powers both native and foreign through the past five AN centuries. Etourney, a colony of Floria, has occupied the island since c. 1651 AN, and as of 1734 AN remains the longest-lasting polity on the mainland (despite being the smallest current occupant). The most recent claim on the MCS map being the nation of Eternia during 1718 AN, which in turn joined the Imperial Federation in 1734 AN.
