The Liberal Alternative was created on December 1 2007 by Nicholas Bertrand. The Party sought to represent Libertarian ideology with a combination of liberal social views and fiscal conservatism that had never before been seen in Alexandria. The Liberal Alternative hoped to offer the Alexandrian electorate, who had previously felt under-represented, more than a choice between the ACP and the AAP.

Despite a promising start, and a change of identity to the Liberty and Democracy Party to keep interest alive, the party was formally closed under the Political Parties Act of 2008 due to inactivity, in July 2008.

Policies

According to party literature, the Liberal Alternative takes the following standpoints;

1.Protection of Life, Liberty and Property

2.The sovereignty of the individual over his own life and body

3.Tolerance and equality for minority groups

4.Equality of the sexes recognised by law and enforced in society

5.Freedom of choice for all Alexandrians in social and economic issues

6.Fiscal conservatism - free markets and low taxes

7.A meritocratic enabling state that allows all Alexandrians to reach their full potential regardless of background

8.An ethical foreign policy that uses Alexandria's power and influence abroad for the good of others
