Unaffiliated

The term unaffiliated, in this context, is used to define whether a member of a legislative body, such as the Imperial Parliament or a provincial parliament, is allied to any of the major political parties.

Although the term is sometimes used interchangeably with the term independent, this isn't necessarily correct. A member of a legislative body may be registered as an Independent whilst choosing to support an established party.
