The Elwynn River runs through east Benacia, and is the most prominent geographical feature of the Republic of Shireroth. It also lends its name to the geographic region and Elwynnese ethnic group.

The Elwynn River as shown on the Physical Map of Micras.

Elwynn was probably named after a river in Warcraft, although the Shirerithians are embarrassed about this and try to hide it. It existed since the first MCS Maps in 2001, and the Shirerithian Duchy of Elwynn is named after it. The Treesian goddess Elwynn was also named after the river.

The Elwynn begins as two large rivers, the East Elwynn and West Elwynn, both of which have their source in the Elirian Mountains. These two tributaries join at Shirekeep, from which the Elwynn proper runs through Shireroth's most important lands until it reaches the sea in a marshy delta near Musica. The Elwynn is currently dammed in a few locations, most importantly the East Elwynn Sluice in Zjandaria. This sluice provides significant power to Shireroth, but its control is fragile: during the War of the Sightseers, a well-placed bomb on the Sluice flooded parts of Brookshire and Goldshire.

Over time, Elwynn also came to mean the geographical area between the two rivers, which became a political subdivision as a Duchy in Shireroth. Elwynnese culture was particularly developed from the creation of the Duchy, especially by citizens Daniel Kalirion and the Khan of Vijayanagara. With the creation of this political subdivision of course came ethnic nationalism and Elwynnese regional identity was so strong that by 2010 the area had become an independent nation.

The Elwynnese are also known as the Elw and Elfinshi, and are found in large numbers in micronations on both sides of the Elwynn River, such as Ashkenatza and Amokolia. Elwynn's national symbol is the White Orchid, a flower which grows in abundance on the riverbanks.
