The S-40 Sǣwulf-class is the first indigenous class of submarine designed and built by Nova English Weapons at the Port Neil and Port Moorland Naval Shipyards. Commissioned in 1745 as part of the "Blue Water" naval expansion, the S-40 was in response to the precariousness of Moorland's strategic situation following the East Keltian Collapse, and to provide the Kingdom with a credible sub-surface deterrent against any effort to blockade the shipping lanes connecting the Kingdom to the wider Raspur Pact.
While lacking the unlimited range of nuclear vessels, the Sǣwulf is optimised for the littoral waters of Northern Keltia. Its diesel-electric propulsion system is exceptionally quiet when running on batteries, allowing it to "bottom out" in the shallow straits and ambush hostile shipping.
