The Praefekt (in Præta), or Prefect (in Istvanistani), is the formal title of a high-ranking civil official in charge of an Imperial Prefecture in Shireroth. In more rural territories, the title is sometimes refered to as Øbersteward. Prior to Ayreon V's reign, the position could have been compared with that of the Dukes and highest nobility. After the Shiro-Benacian War, control over the Prefectures was placed in the hands of people appointed by the Kaiser. In practice, those offices were often - but not limited to - handed down to a representative of an important noble House.
