The Department of Defense is the department that is in charge of the defense policy of Nouvelle Alexandrie The department supervises and manages all the different subordinate defense government agencies, including the armed forces of the Federation - the Federal Forces of Nouvelle Alexandrie.
The department is headed by a Secretary of Defense, who is appointed by the King on the advice of the President of the Government. They exercise command and control, for both operational and administrative purposes, over all service branches administered by the Department. The Secretary of the Defense is a member of the Council of State.
The position is equivalent to the ministry of defense or ministry of war of other nations. It is one of the most important and powerful government departments in the Council of State of Nouvelle Alexandrie, considered a prestigious appointment in public service.
The Department of the Defense is headquartered at The New Citadel, a massive office complex near the city center of Cárdenas, FCD. The department was established in 1685 AN as one of the original departments in the first Council of State.
