Education in Sanama proper is a national matter, with the national government being responsible for coordination, national standards, criteria, lesson plans, grades system and funding. Public schools are run by local governments on behalf of the national government, conforming to national standards and regulations. When it comes to the ultimate governance of the educational system, there are four principals: Cisamarra, the Sanaman national government, Highpass and Thanatos. Cisamarra and Thanatos deviate markedly from the national system, while Highpass is closely aligned to it, owing to its status as a federal territory before becoming an autonomous country. These four systems have noticeable differences, both in the length of mandatory education, curriculum and overall structure.

While there are local differences, the system is homogenous. Compulsory education lasts for 14 years, including two years of preschool.

Grading system
Schools in Sanama proper grades pupils and students from preschool through grade 12. The grading system balances the need of students for relevant assessment while maintaining a school environment as free from negative stress as possible, with the need of schools and higher education for proper assessment and progress management. The grading system is based on set criteria for each grade. Grading is conducted for every subject once per year. A passing grade is required in each subject to progress to the next year. However, the school principal may allow a student to progress anyway if the student has a failing grade in few subjects with a good chance of receiving a passing grade in the next year. However, a student with a failing grade in a Languages, Mathematics or Citizenship and morality subject cannot progress.
