Combined Arms Brigade conversion programme

The programme to convert to Combined Arms Brigades would see the Grand Army of the Federation reorganise the legacy Rapid Reaction Units and Territorial Defence Units into flexible and mobile units, capable of both rapid manoeuvre and of holding territory, functions which had essentially been unsatisfactorily divided between the two formations under the previous army structure.

The programme, alongside certain equipment upgrades, was a main focus for the Grand Army during the period of modernisation begun during the 1740s.

Points to consider

• MBT-3 Sovereign, 1,800 in inventory, with 80% availability and 40% assigned to the Keltia Command theatre of operations, would yield a force of 12 heavy armoured regiments on the basis of 48 assigned to each, which may be considered reasonable. A similar consideration of the 1,750 MBT-2 Victor II yields another 11 heavy armoured regiments for the Keltian theatre – 23 in total.
• Area Defence/Area Denial as a whole force concept, from the corps down to the regimental level, embracing anti-air systems, artillery, heavy weapons systems including anti-tank weaponry, and UAVs. By establishing layered and interlocking area denial bubbles, the AD/AD doctrine allows for manoeuvre warfare to resume by permitting mobile formations to conduct operational advances whilst remaining on the tactical defensive.
