WechuaTel is a major telecommunications and digital infrastructure provider in Nouvelle Alexandrie. Headquartered in Cárdenas, the company is the third-largest cellular service provider and the second-largest internet service provider in the Federation. It plays a key role in expanding digital access across urban, rural, and indigenous communities, particularly in underserved areas.
Founded in 1689 AN as a semi-public utility during the New Prosperity Plan, WechuaTel evolved into a competitive, publicly traded company with a reputation for innovation, inclusive service provision, and infrastructure partnerships. The company’s name reflects its early investment in connecting highland and remote communities, especially speakers of the Wechua language in Wechua Nation.
History
WechuaTel was initially established by royal charter in the wake of federal consolidation efforts following the establishment of Nouvelle Alexandrie. Its mandate was to rapidly expand mobile and internet access across newly integrated regions, including remote parts of the Wechua Nation.
Privatized in 1705 AN, the company expanded its consumer services aggressively during the tech boom of the 1710s and 1720s, investing in 4G and later 5G mobile networks. By 1724 AN, it had become a major player in the Federation's broadband and digital services market.
In 1732 AN, WechuaTel won a landmark government contract under the "Connect the Federation" initiative, significantly expanding its rural fiber-optic backbone. This project made it the second-largest internet provider in the Federation, after TeleMont.
