The State Protection Authority (Saxon: Staatsschutzbehörde, abbreviated as the SSB), commonly known as the Stasches, is the state security and intelligence service of the United Principalities. Established in 1725 AN, it is tasked with maintaining internal security, suppressing dissent activity, and monitoring political activities.
History
The organization took its earliest form as the Weisenburger Security Police (Weisenburger Sicherheitspolizei) founded in the earliest days after the Proclamation of Weisenburg by Kaiser Ludwig I. Its primary purpose was to combat subversion and political opposition, especially in the wake of Niuew-Rotterdam's capture.
However it was during the coming months, under the leadership of Julian Strauß that the Weisenburger Sicherheitspolizei expanded and became more organized, leading to its eventual reformation into the Staatsschutzbehörde. Strauß recognized the importance of maintaining control over the social and political landscape to bring about Weisenburger suzerainty in Southern Cibola. The SsB went on to play a crucial role in the May Action, the suppressing of opposition to the new social order which included socialists, trade unions, and other political groups that posed a threat to the new order.
