Republican Advisory Council

The Republican Advisory Council is a semigovernmental organisation in Sankt Ludwigshafen that reviews both foreign and domestic produced cultural works, such as literary works, musical recording and movies. Depending on the outcome of the review, the council will either advise the Stadtparlement to ban the cultural work, or apply a label that needs to be attached to the cover of a musical recording or movie, or the inside of the cover of a book. Advise from the Republican Advisory Council is usually followed by the Stadtparlement.

Labels and bans

A cultural work can be banned on the following grounds:

  • Promotion of heresy or paganism
  • Promotion of sinful behaviour
  • Explicit violence or sexuality

The following labels can be applied:

  • Unclarity of doctrine
  • Descriptions of sinful behaviour without an explicit condemnation
  • Unnecessary descriptions of violence or sexuality
