Rail transport in Oportia is marked by a clear predominance of freight and passenger traffic, the latter driven in particular by OportoRail, a national inter-city high-speed rail company. The Oportian Railways, the national state-owned railway company, operates a large part of the passenger and freight services on the national network under several regional public-private partnerships. The network has approximately XXX miles (XXXkm) of railways.

While most of the rail infrastructure is owned by the national government, many cities and regional private companies also run their own networks and services, often bound to public-private partnerships along routes that are sustainable and of aid to the development of an interconnected national economy.
