Pax Cisterns
The Pax Cisterns are a network of underground water storage facilities located beneath the federal city of Pax, Oportia. Originally constructed during the Babkhan period in the 16th century AN, the cisterns were expanded and modernized following Oportia's independence in 1706 AN to serve the growing urban population. The system consists of twelve interconnected stone-lined chambers with a total capacity of approximately 2.8 million liters, designed to collect and store rainwater and natural spring water from the surrounding hills. During the Corsair Resurgence, the cisterns proved vital in maintaining Pax's water supply when coastal desalination plants were temporarily shut down due to security concerns. The cisterns are considered an excellent example of historical water management infrastructure and are protected as a cultural heritage site under Oportian federal law.
