Owari

Owari is an island territory belonging to Scarterra, which in turn is a constituent part of Adrestia, itself located to the southeast on South Island. Located solidly between most of the other baronies of Scarterra and Adrestia proper, Owari would otherwise see plenty of trade passing through if not for its isolation, similarly to all the other Baronies of Scarterra. Nominally, the Baron of Owari answers only to the Princes of Scarterra and subsequently to the King of Adrestia. However, the island is almost totally self-governing, and is only dependent on the rest of the country in a military sense.

Practicing a highly self-sufficient economy, the island only trades directly with the port city of Jento to the northwest island, and with Cape Town still farther. Some trade occurs directly with other areas, but travel permits to the island are required. Given the onerous paperwork burden involved and the territory's rather strict laws, though, the only exchange of traffic through Owari tends to be tourists and trusted merchants familiar with (or connected to by some means) the Baronial family -- or, to a lesser extent, the Princely family of Scarterra.

Like other islands in the group, the Owari people tend to keep largely to themselves. The island holds significant strategic importance for Ralgon, but non-natives are strictly confined to the base and its environs without a special travel permit. For this reason, somewhat larger bases are located on other territories nearby such as Ifrit, Scarro, or As'kara. Most direct traffic to the island comes from Mogami, the largest of the southern island Baronies of Scarterra, or from Jento, the shared port collectively owned by the Barons and administered through a ruling class peculiar to that city-island.

As with almost all the other Baronies of Scarterra, the capital of the territory is not a city, but rather the heavily fortified Baronial estate far inland. The palace located at Owari's interior functions as the cultural, political, military, and administrative center of the island. While the territory has a small port and several large settlements on the coast, no official cities exist on the island, as all the land is owned by the Baron and overcrowding into specific areas is strongly encouraged as a matter of policy, mainly to prevent the Baron's estate from losing its central status in the territory.
