Oportian Defense Technology Proving Grounds
The Oportian Defense Technology Proving Grounds is a classified military testing facility located near Rocher de Calmar in the Rocher District, operated by the Oportian Security Forces in conjunction with the Defense Technology Innovation Agency. Established in 1733 AN following the territorial gains from Operation Sentinel Shield, the facility serves as the primary testing site for advanced weapons systems and military technologies developed by Oportian defense contractors including Leviathan Dynamics, Zephyr Aerospace Systems, and Oportian Dynamics. The proving grounds gained particular significance during Operation Sentinel Shield when they were used to field-test the Specter Dart loitering munition system under combat conditions[1], providing valuable operational data that contributed to the system's subsequent development and deployment.
The remote location within the Rocher District's buffer zone provides ideal conditions for weapons testing while maintaining operational security, with the facility's activities closely coordinated with the Rocher de Calmar garrison to ensure range safety and territorial security. Access to the proving grounds is strictly limited to authorized military personnel and cleared defense contractors, with all testing activities subject to oversight by the Department of National Defense and (after the 1744 Oportian coup d'état), the National Salvation Council's military leadership.
