New Alexandrian Recovery Foundation
The New Alexandrian Recovery Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in 1744 AN by entertainer Sylvia Marais to provide treatment and support services for entertainment industry professionals struggling with addiction. Established following Marais's own recovery journey and funded primarily through her entertainment residency earnings[1], the foundation has assisted over 2,000 individuals in accessing comprehensive addiction treatment programs tailored specifically to the unique pressures and challenges faced by performers, musicians, actors, and other creative professionals. The foundation operates treatment centers in Punta Santiago, Cárdenas, and Parap, offering both inpatient and outpatient services that combine traditional addiction therapy with specialized counseling addressing the entertainment industry's demanding lifestyle.
In addition to its primary mission, the foundation launched the "Second Chances" scholarship program, which provides educational and artistic opportunities for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate artistic promise but lack family resources to pursue entertainment careers in healthy environments. The program specifically targets at-risk youth who might otherwise turn to substance abuse as a coping mechanism while navigating the pressures of the entertainment industry.
