The National Service Bureau is the federal agency responsible for the National Service, an unarmed service for people that do not qualify for military service or who refuse armed service. Service members serve in various un- and low-qualified community-critical areas such as healthcare, waste management, public works, public construction projects, education, elderly and disabled care, power distribution and production, and public enterprises. It maintains a close relationship with the Volunteer Labour Service. While the National Service is a substitute for armed service in the People's Armed Services, the Volunteer Labour Service provide jobs for unemployed people. The agency is governed by a dedicated board appointed by the Defence Committee, with the Director General acting as chief executive officer.
