Ms. Vice-President (show)

Ms. Vice-President is an Aldurian political satire comedy television series that airs on NABC, having started at the height of the presidential election in 1672 AN. The series was created by three comedy writers that had past experience in politics, mainly representing the Writer's Guild of Alduria in the Constituent Assembly of 1669.

The protagonist of Ms. President is Catherine Royale, played by Judith Bruneau, a fictional vice president. In the show, the position of vice president is created to be similar to that of the American vice-president. In real life Alduria, the position does not exist, with the Speaker of Parliament taking over the Presidency during incapacitation.

The show follows Royale, Alduria's first female vice president, and her staff as they attempt to build a lasting and prestigious legacy without becoming mired in the minutiae of governance or political games.

Synopsis

The series follows the life and political career of Catherine Royale, Vice-President of Alduria. The show never discusses her party affiliation. Formerly a Governor of the Aldurian state of Napoleon, she campaigned for her party's nomination for the election of 1672 but lost the primary to Jose Martin. To unite the party after a contested primary, Royale subsequently joins the Martin ticket as his running mate and is elected Vice President.

Her staff as Vice President, upon whom Royale is totally reliant, includes chief of staff Lorena Alvin; director of communications Joe Lundgren; deputy director of communications Mike Gerty; body man Dan Larson; and personal secretary Sue Bradshaw. Noah Robertson, initially a presidential liaison to the Vice President's office and later a Member of Parliament from Biscarrose, also features prominently.

The series also explores Royale's personal life, such as her strained relationships with her daughter, ex-husband, and a number of significant others. The lives, careers, and relationships of the other characters are also explored, frequently intersecting with the series' principal narrative, satirizing the political activities and inner workings of the contemporary Aldurian government.

Format

• Almost most of the actors were cast from the nationally-famous National Comedy Club in Punta Santiago, known for its improv comedy and stand-up comedy acts. The show usually begins with a cold open that throws the viewer into the beginning of the episode's story. For the cold opens, the actors will shoot an unscripted version and then a scripted version. The cast and the director decide on the funniest cold open which then gets used. Unused cold opens are usually only released with the DVD collections of the show.

• Judith Bruneau as Catherine Royale (nee Farzad): Born Catherine Fatima Farzad, a former Governor of the state of Napoleon who, in the start of the series, is the titular Vice President who has a strained relationship with the President. After the President declines to run for a second term, she begins campaigning for the presidency. She is divorced with one daughter but remains romantically entangled with her ex-husband. She seems to display little or no maternal instinct towards her daughter.

• Mike: "Okay, we need you all to wave your pro-Royale signs in front of the cameras and get on TV."

Noah: "Wait, no! You can't put me on TV! 18 to 24 women are going to be distracted by me!"

Joe: "The only thing women 18 thru 24 will do when they see you is file a restraining order!"

• Sue: "You're now on the phone with the Vice-President."

Catherine: "Holy fuckery! I cannot believe you are so bad at your job, what, what, what are you doing? Running on a platform of higher taxes and episiotomies?!?"

• Lorena: " She (referring to Royale) is becoming seriously unhinged. She's going full metal Shahanshah."

• Noah: "I can't believe I didn't make it into the '50 Hottest Staffers' list... again!"

Joe: "I'm sorry, but this isn't the '50 People Most Likely To Kill Themselves Before Trial" list."

• Catherine: (To Andre.) "Stop. Stop rolling your eyes at me. You look like the world's bitchiest mime."

• Lorena: "I can't believe that second-hand ventriloquist dummy actually wrote an article that people read."

• Lorena: "Yeah, the President has told me that you're being let go. Oh, and your champagne is laced with polonium. Ha, that was a joke, but really - you're fired."
