Modlabal is a folk sport played between two teams of four players with a spherical ball. It originated in Osktrava, where it is considered the national sport, and is played on a grass field with three scoring totems at either end. The object of the game is to score three "góly" before the other team. Players may touch the ball with any part of their body. Scoring occurs when the ball lands on a flat platform on top of one of the three scoring totems at the opponents' end of the field. A "gól" is awarded when all three totems have been scored on, and the first team to achieve three góly is the winner.

The field is 25 metres long and 15 metres wide. The field is divided into three 5-metre wide "kanalý", or channels. At all times, a team must keep at least one player in all three channels.

The field has a number of other markings on it. Two marks are placed either side of the centre point, one metre apart, marking where the two players contesting the opening "stretnutie", similar to a face-off in ice hockey. Players may use any part of the body to control the ball and direct it to a team mate. A circle of 5 metre diameter is marked around the central point, and all other players must remain outside of this circle until the ball leaves the circle. Along both sets of channel markings, two more sets of "stretnutie"-style lines are marked on each, with the nearest mark being four metres from each goal line. These are used if either team fouls or puts the ball out of play, and possession is not contested in these situations. A solid line is marked 1 metre away from the goal line.

Ball

The ball is spherical and made of a soft material. It must be between 23cm and 23.5cm in circumference.

Players

A modlabal team consists of four players. In addition, up to four substitutes may be named, and unlimited substitutions may be used freely throughout the match. The players must wear matching jerseys, shorts and socks.

Matches

A modlabal match is an unspecified duration. The object of the game is to score three "góly" before the opposing team, by scoring on each of their three totems consecutively. The ball must remain on the raised platform for a score to count.

Fouls

Incidental contact is allowed, but any excessive contact that disadvantages or endangers an opponent is a foul. Most fouls simply result in the non-offending team being awarded the ball at the opponent's "stretnutie" mark. More severe fouls may also result in either a three-minute or ten-minute "pozastavenie", or suspension, during which the team must play with only three players. Particularly dangerous fouls will result in a dismissal, "zamietnutie", and an automatic ten-minute suspension. The non-offending team can score multiple times during pozastavenie. Within a team's one metre area, contact rules are relaxed, as they are permitted to attempt to stop the other team scoring, although dangerous fouls will still result in either stretnutie or pozastavenie.
