Micras Warfare:Covert Ops Cold War 2 is a first-person shooter game co-developed by BlackOUT and TR3AD and published by Monster Interactive with the game narrative centred around a Florian theatre in a fictional Cold War. It is the eighth instalment of the series and the fourth in the Covert ops subseries and acts as a midquel to the futuristic storyline of Micras Warfare:Covert Ops 2.

Plot

During Floria's participation in the Central Euran Wars in 1680, Liberadosian-Florian terrorist Manuel Rodriguez tricks CIB operative Fred Wiseman into killing his teammate and best friend Adam Mitchell, while Rodriguez also eliminates their handler Jack Hoffman after disabling Wiseman. Not long after, their fellow operative Bruce Russell is framed as one of Rodriguez's Bureau moles and forced to go rogue.

During the Keltian War which acts as a contributing conflict in the Micras Cold War, Wisemn has been assigned a desk job with a new protégé, Troy David the latter is deployed to the Atheinian-Oplander border alongside CIB operative Georgie “sub” Carter and handler Alison Mosley to extract Atheinian Minister of Defense Skuld Audolfsson, but they are forced to go off the mission when Skuld claims to be targeted by a rogue paramilitary force named “Orion”. After facing Orion forces, the team prepares to extract Skuld, but Russell arrives and executes him, before allowing himself to be captured. Russell tells David to relay a message to Wiseman, "Priest takes Hook".

The Hook is later revealed to be an abandoned safehouse in former Krasnocoria discovered by Russell and Wiseman in a previous operation. The rogue Covert ops team set up shop there to investigate Orion. Mosley stays behind to cover for the team.

Controversies

The Giftunheile

Whilst not depicting the devastating conflict which occurred in real life, one of the missions requires the player to raid a royal palace in a fictional country in Keltia in search of bioweapons ordered by the country's king to be used on Floria.

Reception

Numerous Florian critics prised the game and stated that the game was a welcome addition to the series and a serious turning point in the franchise's fortunes after the disaster of Micras Warfare 2 which led to the franchise's hiatus.
