Libertad Deep Field
The Libertad Deep Field is a major offshore oil and gas field located in the waters surrounding Islas de la Libertad, approximately 180 kilometers southeast of the main island. Discovered in 1721 AN, just two years after the territory's incorporation as a Region of the Federation, the field contains estimated recoverable reserves of 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Production commenced in 1724 AN following a three-year development program, eventually reaching approximately 85,000 barrels per day at peak output. The discovery transformed Islas de la Libertad from a modest fishing and maritime territory into a significant contributor to national energy production, and demonstrated that the Federation's offshore petroleum potential remained incompletely explored.
The development of the Libertad Deep Field reshaped the economy of Islas de la Libertad, which had previously relied primarily on fishing, pearl hunting, and its strategic position along major shipping routes. The Islas de la Libertad Regional Development Bank, established just one year before the discovery in 1720 AN, financed substantial petroleum sector infrastructure during the 1720s, including port facilities at Nuevo Corcovado and pipeline connections linking the offshore platforms to processing facilities on shore. The Aldurian Oil Company, which operates the field under federal charter, invested in workforce training programs to maximize local employment in extraction and processing operations. After more than two decades of production, the field remains a significant contributor to both regional and federal revenues, though economists have noted that output has stabilized as the field has matured.
