The Lanzerwaldkloster is a monastery located in the Lanzerwald in Sankt Ludwigshafen that is affiliated with the Ludwiggian Reformed Church. The monastery offers believers the opportunity to retreat from their civil life for forty days and forty nights so they can meditate, deepen their faith and rest and participate in communal worship the Lord. After these forty days and forty nights have passed, the believer is to bring into practice what he has learned into his civil life again. The Ludwiggian Reformed Church rejects seclusion and asceticism as spiritual practices, and these forms of spirituality are not taught in the Lanzerwaldkloster. The Ludwiggian Reformed Church beliefs that these practices foster ideas that are contrary to doctrine, such as the belief that salvation is achieved because of merits. It also considers the practice of seclusion to ignore the fact that man was created to live in a community and have a positive influence on that community.
