La Familia, officially Cártel del Familia Unida, is an international criminal syndicate originating from Gran Verionia and active in various countries notably West Skerry and Sri Pashana. The primary activity of La Familia is the international drug trade, and notably the streamlining of drug production and consolidation of trafficking routes. Due to its climate and location, Gran Verionia is a major producer of drugs. The northern jungles of Aracataca are home to one of the largest producers of cocaine, whereas the South Keltian plains produce marihuana and heroin. La Familia brought these various producers together through an intrinsic network of traffic, and a top-down steering of production, catered towards the demand in other parts of Micras.

History

The La Familia cartel emerged in the early 1680s as a consolidation of various small-time and local criminal syndicates. Drug production has been part of the culture of the Toroshi and Soufi states for decades, although central coordination had been largely absent. In 1680, José Albado Miranda and Franco El Toro Hernandèz Lopèz, started trafficking heroin and marihuana from Torosh and Souf towards Valentia. Following the Northern Expansion, the production of cocaine in the jungles of Aracataca became the main source of revenue.
