Once, in many years past, there was a man whom was known by some as Jalak. Jalak was an elder to his peers but spoke to those who might listen of a time when he was once a great man who worked for the Kaiser himself. When asked what had happened, Jalak always gave the same unsatisfying answer, "It was boring". But, as time passed, Jalak came to realize that he had even less to do without his office in Shirekeep and so he begged the Kaiser for something to do. This Kaiser was not the same man Jalak had worked with in his old life but did know that Jalak could do hard work and so he granted him the Ministry of Sport. As Minister, Jalak did well for some years but grew jaded and unsatisfied once more. To excite his office, Jalak forged massive pits of murder and loss and with this he was content for some years more. But one day, as Suthergold and its capital were still in their infancy, Jalak pierced the bloodless soil of Kingsgate with a sword of magic and writhing evil and so the Kingsgate Pit invaded the city. Here, Jalak laughed as he dragged innocents from the curious crowd which had formed around the dark arena and told them to kill their brothers with deadly blades. The victims fought each other as the creature Jalak lifted iron walls to release his tormented loins before a crowd screaming and pleading and crying for the madness to end, but to no success. So it was that The Massacre of Kingsgate-Pit came to be.
Jalak, the bloated troll he had become, truly saw energy flood into his work as the Count Ryker returned to his people in a terrible rage. He furiously ordered the beastly invader explain his actions and began work on transforming the evil pit into a place of defensive teachings. Jalak the Troll saw Ryker's actions and brought hellfire to the scaffolds and workers and all else to ensure that no peaceful land might ever become of Kingsgate. All the nobles and leaders from all Shireroth now saw Jalak the Troll's heinous acts and demanded his death. Only the Count Ryker denounced this punishment, as is the Suthergoldian way. Jalak the Troll fled the County, bored now more than ever, and so chose to make it his duty to always be in Ryker's midst, ready to cause masterful vexation as is the cowardly way of all Trolls, big and small.
