Hoog Falwawoud
The Hoog Falwawoud is a forest located in the lordships Duchy Batavorum, Barony Broeck, County Gallië, Duchy of Hoorne and County Palatine of Valkburgh. The forest is bordered by the Rhijne, Wegge and Zwette rivers.
The name "Hoog Falwawoud" is derived from the old Dutch word "vaal" (fallow). This word is a contrast to the word for old Dutch word "bata", which means "good". The word "hoog" (high) refers to the higher location of the area.
Vegetation
A very large part of the Hoog Falwawoud consists of forest, both deciduous forest, mixed forest and coniferous forest. Because of this there is a wide variety of animal species to be found in the forest.
The forest is interrupted by heathland. This heathland is maintained by sheep herds. In addition, large sand drifts can be found, these areas vary from time to time in size and location.
