Hamish Morriston (b. 11.X.1697 AN) is a Moorlandic politician and landowner serving as Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Moorland. A prominent figure within the Highland Caucus of the Homeland and Heritage Party, he represents the agricultural interests of West Moorland in the national government. He previously served as chairman of the Highland Party prior to its absorption into the HHP under the Gracious Edict of 1752.
Morriston was born in Threlkeld to a family of substantial tenant farmers who had worked the same land since the Novarian era. His father, Andrew Morriston, acquired the freehold during the upheavals following the Nova English collapse, establishing the family as minor gentry. Morriston himself expanded the holdings through shrewd purchases during the Wars of the Disinherited, when many landowners fled westward. He married Margaret MacHart, a cousin of Clan MacHart's chief, cementing his ties to the traditional clan structure.
First elected to the Witan in 1728 AN, Morriston built his reputation on agricultural policy and rural infrastructure. He championed the extension of Trans-Keltian Express branch lines into remote highland communities and authored legislation establishing grain price supports for Moorlandic farmers. His practical temperament and willingness to compromise made him a natural choice for party leadership, and he served as Highland Party chairman from 1745 AN until the merger. When Prime Minister Albert Travercraig formed his government in 1752 AN, he appointed Morriston as his deputy, a position that places Morriston at the center of negotiations between the HHP's competing factions.
