Giftunheile Health Fund
The Giftunheile Health Fund (GHF) is a public health fund established in 1730 AN by the Kingdom of Moorland for victims and their families suffering from negative health effects as a result of chemical and biological warfare conducted by Floria during its invasion of Ostland during The Giftunheile campaign. Sponsored by the government of Moorland following the annexation of Ostland after the Burwood Wildfires, it was discovered that many locals were still suffering from the after-effects of the invasion, despite much of the chemical residues being burned off by the wildfires. Burn victims from white phosphorous with permanent disabilities were found to be widespread and often in destitute condition due to the lack of care. When these cases were investigated further, it was discovered that blood agents used in the campaign had created ill health effects in large numbers of the population, and adversely affected the offspring of those people. Cancer and respiratory problems such as asthma and emphysema were widespread. Thus it became clear that the effects of the war had much long-lasting impacts than previously ascertained.
As such, the government authorized the creation of the GHF to provide care and health services for victims. The St. Jospeh's Medical Centre was constructed with a large burn unit to assist those injured by white phosphorous, including rehabilitation services. Another major facility is the Bourne Cancer Centre that provides both treatment and research. A public trust fund was created through a combination of private donors and public slush funds to support these facilities and to provide care to victims. Those without health insurance can apply for grants to cover medical treatment costs. Depending on the severity of the case, these can be fast-tracked for speedier service. As of 1740, over eight-thousand patients have been given assistance through the program.
