The Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBGP) is a federal program by the government of Nouvelle Alexandrie, that provides funding to cities and regions to support community development activities. It is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Program has the intent of supporting a wide range of activities for community development, including:
- The Affordable Housing Grant, that provides funds for the building and rehabilitation of affordable housing units;
- The Public Facilities and Infrastructure Grant, that is used to build and rehabilitate public facilities, including community centres, parks, and libraries, as well as city utilities, streets, and side-walks;
- The Economic Development Support, which provides funding for business and job creation in low- and moderate-income areas;
- The Public Services Grant, which is used on public services such as childcare, healthcare, job training, food assistance, and emergency assistance;
- The Urban Planning and Administration Grant, which is used to support both strategic and neighbourhood planning, as well as workforce training, and data collection and analysis.
The funding is allocated to municipal and regional governments based on a formula that takes into account factors such as population size, poverty rate, and housing overcrowding, among other community needs.
