The Church of Elwynn's Schism of 1569 occurred in the aftermath of the division of Elwynn, following the Elwynn's declaration of independence in 1567. As East Elwynn remained feudally loyal to the Kaisership, it became increasingly difficult for the Church of Elwynn to hold ecclesiastical governance over both parts of Elwynn. The Communion of 1600 ended the schism.

The Eastern Elwynnese authorities declared their independence from the Church of Elwynn (CoE) and formed the Elwynnese Church of Treesian Unorthodoxy (ECTU). The ECTU kept the same theology as the Church of Elwynn, which is why it was regarded as schismatic and not heretical.

The ECTU established two archdioceses in the same dualistic fashion as the Church of Elwynn, in Dragonskeep and South Tielion Loki (Ardashirshahr). The other dioceses of the Church of Elwynn within the ECTU's jurisdiction remained, but were regarded as schismatic by the Church of Elwynn.

In 1599, when reunification seemed likely between West and East Elwynn, the leadership of CoE and the ECTU met in Tielion Loki's Matrimonial Palace in the so-called Synod of Reunion. They agreed on a reabsorption of the ECTU into the CoE with the following stipulations:

  • status of archdiocese of South Tielion Loki and Dragonskeep not to be recognized, their statuses as dioceses however to have been recognized, but South Tielion Loki's diocese to be subsumed into Ardashirshahr's own.
  • ordinances and so on made by ECTU to remain valid, except for the positions of archsagarts – instead those who were archsagarts to be regarded ex post facto as "Co-Presidents of the Eastern Conference of Sagarts" for that period.
  • Mutual forgiveness and so on.
