Battle of Irrel
The (First) Battle of Irrel was fought in 1142 AN between the armies of the Duke of Davignon, Johan Windsor, and an army under the command of Koningenwaarder King Alfons Veronique. It was fought in the swamps near the town of Irrel and ended in a devastating loss for the defending army. It meant the end of independence of the lordships in western Benacia, as those who opposed the king were forced to bend the knee or lost their lordship. The battle ended an age old conflict for power over the Batavian Lands, even though the noble families would keep acting in their own best interest. Only 300 years later would the lordships finally be united under a centralised rule, during the reign of Queen Faya Veronique (ironically also the last member of the House of Veronique).
