Banh Nao Dong Nai (abbreviated BNDN), formerly and commonly known as Xai Gan, is the most populous city in Banh Nam with a population of around 9 million in 2023. The city is situated in the central region of Banh Nam, surrounded by multiple rivers.
The city is known for its vibrant nightlife, well-preserved Yewlang-Columbo-styled architecture and multiple city landmarks such as its museums and galleries which attract tourists every year.
History
The city was built near the ancient dynastic Banh Nam capital of Trang Dong and was used as the state's capital when under the first Yewlang colonization. The city was located in the center of the Dong Nai River making it perfect for shipping routes and trade, leading to Banh Nao Dong Nai being established as the trade hub of a Yewlang colonized Banh Lang. The city saw many changes as it was captured by general Nguyen Xai Gan during the Banhnamese revolts and led to the city being the capital of the newly established Banh Nam before being replaced by Dien Noi due to the latter's more accessible geographical location. The city would be renamed to Xai Gan in 1738 to commemorate Nguyen Xai Gan's legacy in Banhnamese history but saw the name be removed when Banh No invaded and later sieged the city, renaming it to Banh No Van Ho.
Banh Nao Dong Nai would be liberated by Banh Nam after the end of the Banh Nam War, leading to its restoration of name and cultural sites.
Culture
The city's culture is heavily influenced by the Yewlang culture, thus resulting in the name being named after the Yewlang word Dong Zhi (同志) which meant comrades and when mixed with the Banhnamese language became Nao Dong Nai, meaning the city is named in memory of Banhnamese comrades who died defending the nation from foreign forces.
Yewlang architecture also can be seen in every corner of the city due to the city being used as a vice-capital and mainly Yewlang government buildings were settled in the city.
Sports
The city hosts multiple sports teams such as B League 1 team Banh Nao Dong Nai FC which plays in the Mang Pho Stadium in District 10. The city also has a basketball representative, being the Banh Nao Dong Nai Basketball Club.
