The 1690 elections in Sankt Ludwigshafen were the third elections ever held in the nation, and the first of the second republic. They ended the period between the first and second republic where the nation was first without guidance, and then lead by the provisional government of Claudia Weißdeich. Two parties participated in the elections, the Traditional Party of 1680 and the Slight Reform Party of 1681, the Progressive Alliance which had received one seat in 1683 had been disbanded in 1686. On behalf of the Traditional Party '80, Klaudius Buchsteller was candidate for the office of stadtholder, while the Slight Reform Party '81 had Joseph Imker as candidate. The elections became a landslide victory for the Traditional Party, which received forty-seven out of fifty seats, the Slight Reform Party received only three seats. As expected, Klaudius Buchsteller was elected Stadtholder by the Stadtparlement during its first session.
