The Schorpioen I Pantserstrijdwagen was a medium tank that is being developed by Osthügel Motorenwerke in cooperation with the Army of the Republic of the United Cities in the Lanzerwald that was expected to take it into service. Development of the vehicle began in 1712 as during the Uprising of Bisera, the army recognised that it needed to invest in modern army capabilities to increase the military advantage of the Lanzerwald republic in comparison to the independent tribes of the Lanzerwald. The medium tanks ran on diesel, which was expected to be produced in the refinery of Prins Haven after 1720. In 1713, prospectors of the republic found oil reserves in the coastal waters of Prins Haven, additional reserves have been found inland in 1714 and 1715.

Initial plans for the Schorpioen I Pantsterstrijdwagen were to power it with a OMW 5L4C 400BHP engine from Osthügel Motorenwerke, similar as the one used in the heavy OMW Handelsmann lorry. A decision on the main and secondary armaments was not immediately made as the Krijgskorps wished to await decisions on ammunition standardisation with the Mondosphere. A first prototype of the tank that was constructed in V.1714 was outftted with a 40mm anti-tank cannon that had long been in service with Lanzerwaldian and even Ludwiggian armed forces.

The project quickly became much more expensive than first anticipated, and Osthügel Motorenwerke proved to be unable to bear the costs. In VI.1715 the budget overruns of the project became a problem for the Army of the Republic of the United Cities in the Lanzerwald as well, and it did not have enough currency reserves to pay soldier's salaries. As the project was scrapped, the unpaid soldiers instigated the 1715 Lanzerwaldian Mutiny
