Due to its limited distribution and specific climatic requirements, the Wakara Blue Orchid is highly vulnerable to environmental changes and human activities, such as land development and agriculture, leading to its current endangered status.

The Wakara Blue Orchid holds significant cultural importance to the Wakara people, the indigenous inhabitants of the Region of Boriquén. It is often used in traditional ceremonies and rituals and is considered a symbol of purity and the enduring spirit of the Wakara community.
