Sporting career

Cricket

Hands played Cricket originally for his school, taking up the sport as a 5-year-old, before playing competitively for Glebe House and then for Brancaster. Hands has not played a game of cricket since 2008 however.

Fencing

Hands participated in Fencing in 2006 and 2008 at Kingswood in North Norfolk. Hands took up the sport again when he joined University in 2016 and was named as a reserve for the Men's B team on Épée, however he withdrew from the team during the winter break.

Hands played football for a variety of teams, including school and club teams during his career, though was overshadowed by his brother, who played in the youth teams of Peterborough United and Fakenham Town.

During High School Hands launched the Senyan national team, playing for them 6 times in a 2 year period, scoring 12 goals.

Hands resumed playing football in a 5-a-side league at University for the Nordic Society's Team Viking in 2017. After being unable to play during for the first semester due to classes, he debuted in a 4–3 defeat against the French Society on 2 February 2018, during which he scored. The following game he played in a 3–1 loss to the Cricket club. He scored his second goal in his fourth game with a deflected effort in a 5–2 defeat to league leaders MZF on 16 February 2018. In the second half of the season, the team struggled to garner players for matches, and forfeited three of the last four games. Hands missed the one non-forfeited game through injury.

In October 2018 he trained with Swiss 4. Liga club SC Holligen 94, though rejected a contract due to other commitments preventing him from attending training sessions reguarly.

Gymnastics

Hands trained with at Waveney Gymnastics Club in Lowestoft between 2004 and 2006.

Hands began his Handball career at University, joining the Handball team. Hands was called up to the University squad for the first time in November 2016 for a friendly in Ilford, however this match was cancelled a day before it was scheduled. Hands was called up for the Essex University's team for the British University Handball Championships – South Qualifiers in Worcester, where he played in 5 games, debuting against Cambridge as a substitute, before starting in the next match against Imperial. Hands missed a penalty in his fourth match against Bangor 2, before being sin binned in the final match against Bath 2 after an illegal foul made with the leg, which Essex went on to lose 9–5. Although Essex qualified for the National Finals' plate tournament in Gillingham by placing fourth in their group, the team withdrew due to a lack of available players.

Hands played his first full length fixtures on 18 November 2017 when he represented Essex against Brunel at Mayesbrook Park in Dagenham. He made a 5-minute substitute appearance in a friendly between the two universities men's teams in a 37–8 win. Shortly afterwards, he played a second friendly in a mixed team, where he played 23 minutes in a 26–13 win. During these games, Hands played variously as a wing, back and pivot.

Hands played for Essex again on 17 November 2019 in a friendly against Cambridge, which Essex lost 36–28. Hands was then selected in the men's squad for the British University Championships over the weekend of 6–8 March 2020 in Gillingham. Essex won all four group stage games in the Men's plate, with Hands featuring in a 16–10 win over Oxford, a 17–10 win over Bangor and a 12–7 win over Liverpool, whilst not featuring in Essex's 14–13 win over Warwick. Essex went on to win the competition by defeating Glasgow 9–6 in the final.

Judo

Hands trained as a Judoka between 2002 and 2003 at Saint Felix School. Hands did place third in the Suffolk County Junior Judo Championships on 22 June 2003 in the Under-8s category. However, after moving school, Hands gave up Judo, having never passed a grading.

Rugby Union

Hands played Rugby Union for both Glebe House and Brancaster between 2006 and 2008. Hands scored his only two tries against Wood-Dene and Gresham's whilst playing for Glebe House.

Skiing

Hands has reguarly skied since the age of four. Hands has occasionally participated in competitions in various Alpine skiing disciplines, and won the silver medal in 2006 in a Youth Slalom Championship in Italy. Hands no longer skis competitively but occasionally participates in the sport recreationally.
