The United Empire of Landingberg-Schoninreich, later known as the United Empire of Ländersreich, was the successor state to Landingberg. At its height, the United Empire composed of the lands of Northwest Apollonia that lay west of the River Camoleo, went south past Lake Lamantia towards the border with Shireroth but never extending to Lake Christoph, and northwards following the coastline with the Northern Sea and Floyd Island. Its western border was composed of a hundreds of mile long border with the Holzer Empire with which the United Empire shared many cultural similarities. The two countries were rivals, culminating in the War of the Broken Pottery, or as it was known in the United Empire "The Lando-Holzer War".

History

Unification

The United Empire was formed when Landingberg merged with her sister state, the Empire of Schoninreich. The ruling House of Schoninreich was defunct and as its closest relative, it passed to Aleksander Wilhelm III of the House of Asher.

Instead of keeping the two countries separated, the Kaiser decided to unite the two countries and along with the help of his government created a new Constitution and set into motion plans for a new Capital City, Reichdorf. Reichdorf, while still technically in the borders of Landingberg, was felt to be more "neutral" territory as it was located in a part of the country with a high population of ethnic Schonins, and was roughly equidistant from Asheriana and Scheon, the two former capital cities.

Known as the Lando-Holzer War within the United Empire, the war was between the United Empire and The Holzer Empire. Leading up to the War, terrorist attacks had been linked to what was believed to be Holzborg, as it was then known, and lead the United Empire to cut all diplomatic ties with its neighboring countries. A series of diplomatic messages were sent back and forth in a mounting Cold War between the two countries until the tension was finally broken when the King of Engliriace, allies of Holzborg-Norona, declared war on the United Empire. Alliances in the area were complex, with both Holzborg and the United Empire having many close allies. The United Empire's alliances ended up resulting in the Non-Aligned Movement joining the conflict, in one of its first armed conflicts, on the side of the Landish.

Minor skirmishes began along the Lando-Holzer border before eventually being taken to the cities of New Yekaterinburg and a siege of the former Schonin capital of Scheon, both battles ending up in the favor of the united Landish, Alexandrian, and NAM forces. Shortly after the Battle of Scheon, the Holzer city of Leifgrad was captured by Alexandrian forces, led by Marshal Benavides. It was at this time that Holzborg-Norona started to broker for peace, but for various reasons these offers were all turned down. Most famously, the United Empire's Chancellor, Josef-Franz von Helgsenberg left the peace stalks stating "Holzborg is in no position to make demands"; the war carried on.

War on the Landish front ultimately ended when combined forces of the Allies stormed, and ultimately took, the Holzer capital of Königriver. While the war had ended for NAM, Alexandria, and the United Empire; the War would continue on for some time for Matbaa who felt snubbed after not gaining any new lands at the Council of Gottenburg, and continued the war in an effort to "protect Matbaaic interests in the region".

The War, while short, ended up having a great impact on the region. The War saw the complete collapse of the Kingdom of Engliriace and the complete restructuring of Holzborg-Norona. The War had also proven the military might of the Non-Aligned movement once and for all, and dawned the early years of Riponia having a strong presence on the continent.

Organization

The United Empire, much like its Holzer neighbors to the West, was composed of tiny states and regions that were under the control of local ruling families who held their lands in title only. These titles, however, harkened back to a time where these noble families ruled the lands for the Kaiser and in turn received protection from the crown. While several of these states were under the control of Noble families, several others were in a personal union with the crown.
