The Umeå hytte was a summer house in Sårensby, Normark, which was used as a torture centre after the War of Lost Brothers. It was used by the Department of Political Warfare, established by Keltia Command and the then demesnal government of Normark, and allied paramilitary groups such as the Tuktuvut Confederation. Those detained at the site were mostly Bassarids and figures associated with the left.

After the end of the active phase of the war with the Bassarids in Normark, and the transfer of sovereignty from Natopia to Elwynn in 1678, the site was sold to the ESB Group (Keltia), whose security division, responsible for protecting the nearby Sårensby Industrial Area, developed the Umeå hytte into an enlarged "dacha" complex for use as a clubhouse and leisure facility.

In 1688 the Nordlyset newspaper released a cache of government documents linking the site to the disappearance of a number of prominent journalists, left-leaning politicians and intellectual figures during the premiership of Statsminister Sigrid Årud (1679–1685).

The revelations prompted a scandal, with the minority government under Ethan Setsman making the promise to conduct a "full and fearless" investigation into the activities of the previous administration whilst the Norse Reform Party and Democratic Party members of the Nordisketing called for the immediate suspension of Sigrid Årud and her resignation from the Speakership. In response to these demands the Einhornselskapet denounced the planned investigation and announced the immediate termination of the confidence and supply agreement which had supported the present governing coalition. These actions precipitated the 1688 Normark political crisis.
