Tianchao Haijun Modernisation of 1678

The Tianchao Haijun Modernisation of 1678 was a significant effort by the Tianchao Haijun to modernise its fleet. In 1678 AN, the Chidao Emperor made it public that he had offered a contract to Gong Shipyards, Sokoku Industries and Gangtie Industries to replace many of the vessels of the Tianchao Haijun. In a period of fifteen years, a total of thirty corvettes, twenty cruisers, twenty destroyers, ten battleships, seven aircraft carriers and three hundred fighter planes were to be build. The submersible fleet was not part of the modernisation as these follow a continuous update schedule and are removed from service after fifteen years. In 1679 an additional five grand battleships of the newly introduced Sodaina-class were bought from Sokoku Industries. The modernisation is expected to be finished by 1693. Lessons were learned from the 1647-1652 Xindao Program, which had similar ambitions as the 1678 Modernisation, but tried to achieve this in a shorter time frame and without solid financial oversight.

Recycled materials

The gun turrets that were removed from the old Kattei-class battleships have been sold to the Barbarian Republic, to defend the Strait of Barbary. The same applies to fifty Raven IV fighter jets formerly belonging to the 6th and 7nd Eagle Strike Unit, which will be removed from Jingdaoese service in 1691 before being transferred over to Barbary.
