Preliminary Census Figures: Alduria-Wechua at 185 Million Inhabitants

Parap, Wechua Nation -- Alduria-Wechua's population stands at 185 million inhabitants, according to the Department of Interior.

Preliminary figures from the national census and voter registration program currently underway ahead of the next general elections estimate Alduria-Wechua's population at 185,247,071. The marked increase in population from 1685 AN is attributed to the rapid territorial expansion of the Federation and to new waves of Caputian and Alexandrian refugees from the Green settling in the Federation.

The information comes from the Department of Interior's first major piece of data on the ongoing census effort called the Demographic Analysis, which is a national population estimate and is an alternative to the official census results. This estimate is based mainly on government records about births, deaths, immigration, and enrollment in government schools or social programs.

Microvision 2021 Planning Underway

Punta Santiago, Alduria -- Government officials and key media and music industry executives have begun meeting to develop plans for Alduria-Wechua's hosting of the contest next year.

Public excitement after Alduria-Wechua's stunning victory in the Microvision Song Contest 2020 has heightened public interest in the nation's musical heritage and patrimony, with Wechua artist Renata Flores seeing her song, "Qawachkanchik chay Killallata", catapult to the top of the Alduro-Wechua charts.

Preliminary discussions have concluded that a private corporation shall be created to be placed in charge of putting together the show, likely to be broadcast from the capital city of Cárdenas. Public funds shall not be used for the event, but the government has pledged to provide security for the event, among other services, to ensure that the event is a production of the highest quality.

Government Begins Move to Cárdenas

Parap, Wechua Nation -- The Federal Capital Commission has announced that key government facilities and infrastructure are complete, prompting the government to issue directives to begin moving all federal government operations to the new capital, Cárdenas. The first stages of the move is set to begin in a few months. The move is expected to be gradual and slow as more and more parts of the new capital are completed. The move is expected to be completed by 1696 AN.

The ambitious 33-billion project to build a new capital city is part of a greater effort to decentralize government in a bid to give greater political power and financial resources to Regions and municipalities.

Long-Term Forecasts for Defence

Parap, Wechua Nation -- The annual Defence Requisitions Estimate presented to the Federal Constituent Assembly by the Count of Choquequirao, Secretary of Defense, on behalf of the Council of State, raised a number of eyebrows on account of some of the details contained therein.

The manpower requirements of the Federal Air Force are expected to rise from 373,000 in 1691 AN to 517,200 men assigned to 431 aviation regiments and 147,510 men assigned to ground based air defence forces.

The Defence Special Works Programme would require the enlistment of 350,000 construction troops into the Federal Support Corps. The Defence Special Works Programme would require in its inaugural year (1691) the earmarking of 23 billion Alduro-Wechua écu out of a full defence budget of 215 billion.

The expansion of the submarine arm, with eleven Franciscania-class and five Tudela-class nuclear-propulsion submarines joining the fleet by 1700 AN, the further growth of the Federal Air Force by an additional two thousand air frames (1,568 T-5/A-5 Tejón de Miel, 294 utility helicopters, 138 X-17) by 1710 AN would see the defence budget double to 430 billion Alduro-Wechua écu by the end of the decade.

The Count of Choquequirao went on to forecast that the rising defence and colonial demands for manpower, unavoidable in view of the rapid territorial expansion undertaken since the Proclamation of Punta Santiago in 1685 AN, will invariably deprive the national workforce of skilled and unskilled labour and necessarily be in competition with the other programmes of the New Prosperity Plan, along with the grand corporations of private sector, for the brightest and the best. As such plans for manpower substitution, the backfilling of vacated civilian roles with workers recruited from allied countries and the Green must be advanced and implemented.

The Count of Choquequirao concluded by stating that the strategic situation of Alduria-Wechua in the sixth year of the union, necessitated the continuation of National Service as a universal requirement incumbent upon all adult males aged sixteen to twenty, that remained justified by public interest as defined by the Proclamation of Punta Santiago.
